TOLEDO, Ohio, April 25, 2013 - The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority increased its international cargo shipments during the 2012 navigation season, earning it the prestigious Robert J. Lewis Pacesetter Award from the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (SLSDC), an agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Pacesetter Award was instituted to honor the achievements of ports aggressively marketing international exports and imports. SLSDC Advisory Board Member Dr. Arthur Sulzer presented the award today to Paul Toth, President and CEO for the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority.

TOLEDO, Ohio, April 25, 2013 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority announced today that Airgas, Inc., the largest U.S. distributor of industrial, medical and specialty gases, will construct the first new building at the Overland Industrial Park. The new facility will bring approximately 25 jobs to the northwest Ohio region.

TOLEDO, Ohio, April 19, 2013– Travelers in northwest Ohio are beginning to see that they can get to more destinations from the Toledo Express Airport (TOL). March 2013 reports show that total passenger traffic at TOL was up 8.95 percent over March 2012, indicating the first month-over-month increase in passenger traffic since March 2009. Competitive prices, nonstop flights to vacation destinations, hub connectivity, community support and affordable parking all contribute to the airport's growing popularity. A total of 18,766 passengers chose to fly through Toledo Express Airport last month. Allegiant, whose passenger totals were up nearly 44 percent, carried a record 12,644 total passengers for the month of March. 

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority welcomes the first overseas freighter of the season with a traditional welcoming that kicks off the 2013 shipping season for our region. The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, Midwest Terminals of Toledo and other officials will present Captain Tomasz Molenda and crew of the M/V ISA with welcoming gifts during the event. The M/V ISA bears 9,500 metric tons of sugar from Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala and its arrival regionally signifies the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway System. The freighter will arrive in the Port of Toledo and will be docked at Midwest Terminals of Toledo, located at 3319 St. Lawrence Drive Toledo, Ohio.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority will begin the next phase of redevelopment at the Overland Industrial Park this spring and is estimated to be completed in fourth quarter 2013. The first phase of construction on the site includes the construction of a 1,500 foot roadway and utilities from Central Avenue. This new roadway will serve as the main entrance into the site until the Ohio Department of Transportation completes phase two of the I-75 interchange project.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has been the grantee of Foreign Trade Zone 8 since 1971, and has recently been approved for the reorganization and expansion of the zone under the Alternative Site Framework (ASF). The ASF takes the Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) area from single buildings or parcels and overlays the FTZ over a large service area that includes all of Sandusky, Henry, Wood, Lucas and Defiance Counties in Ohio, in and adjacent to the Toledo-Sandusky Customs and Border Protection port of entry.

Continued demand for iron ore, coal, and general cargo for the industrial and manufacturing sectors lifted the tonnage numbers along the Great Lakes-Seaway System to the positive column. For the period March 22 to November 30, year-to-date total cargo shipments were 34.6 million metric tons, a rise of 2.67 percent over the same period in 2011. The St. Lawrence Seaway reported an 11 percent increase for total cargo shipments during the month of November – 5.1 million metric tons – compared to November 2011.

Allegiant has announced today that it will begin to offer new nonstop, low cost weekly service between Toledo Express Airport and Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) starting February 16, 2013. Fares are starting as low as $89.99* one-way. The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority will hold a press conference this morning at 11 a.m. to discuss the new air service.

North American commodities for the industrial and manufacturing sectors drove an uptick in tonnage numbers along the Great Lakes-Seaway System. The St. Lawrence Seaway reported a 9.8 percent increase for total cargo shipments in October – 4.4 million metric tons – compared to October 2011.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has completed the issuance of a second bond deal for the BetterBuildings Northwest Ohio (BBNWO) Program in conjunction with the Toledo Ohio Advanced Energy Improvement Corporation in the amount of $6,435,000.

Over the last year, the Great Lakes Commission, Ohio Lake Erie Commission, Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and other members of the Toledo Harbor Dredge Management Task Force have worked with a technical team to evaluate sustainable practices to manage dredged material from Toledo Harbor in a manner that balances economic and environmental aspects.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that a Coalition comprised of partners from the City of Toledo, Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, Lucas County Land Bank and Metroparks of the Toledo Area will receive an assessment grant in the amount of $800,000 for brownfield redevelopment in Lucas County.

The steel and construction industries pushed the demand for North American commodities such as iron ore, stone and cement, and provided the 2012 shipping season with a solid start.

The Ohio Department of Development announced yesterday that it had awarded the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority $2.8 million for the further development of infrastructure on the Port Authority’s Overland Industrial Park, located at the former Jeep Parkway property. The award comes from the State’s Job Ready Site Program.

With the release today of President Obama’s fiscal 2013 budget, the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA)—representing seaports in the United States and throughout the Americas—is expressing both accolades, and some disappointment, over various aspects of the budget pertaining to ports and the efficient and secure movement of freight.

ALEXANDRIA, VA (Jan. 31, 2012) — The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) commends the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its chairman, Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.), for its commitment toward: a five-year reauthorization of federal surface transportation legislation; a freight mobility subtitle; a waterborne transportation title that seeks to fully use the federal Harbor Maintenance Tax for its intended purpose; program consolidation; streamlining project delivery; and to the aggressive timetable it has developed to secure passage of a final bill.

The St. Lawrence Seaway closed for the season on December 30, 2011, with the westbound vessel Algoma Spirit reaching Lake Ontario at 7:54 a.m. after having transited the locks on the St. Lawrence River. The Seaway’s 53rd navigation season commenced on March 22nd, and the system remained open for a record 284 days, exceeding by one day the previous record set in 2006.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has released the Port of Toledo 2011 Tonnage report which indicates a 6% increase in tonnage over the 2010 shipping season. 2011 was the highest tonnage season recorded at the Port of Toledo since the 2007 season. Also included in the report is a summary of seaport tonnage from 1947 – 2011.

Bill Pribe isn't quite sure how much Toledo Jet Center is saving on its electricity bill, but he sees that, despite a reduction in the number of fixtures, the hangars where Toledo Jet staff work on aircraft are just as bright as they were before the company replaced its lights.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and The Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation today jointly released a new Port of Toledo Economic Impact Study which indicates that the Port of Toledo generates nearly 7,000 jobs, and vessel and cargo activity creates more than $1billion in economic impact.

U.S. ports continued to post positive tonnage numbers in November. The Seaway’s year-to-date total cargo shipments from March 22 to November 30 were 33 million metric tons, up 1.23 percent from the same period last year.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority Board of Directors approved a resolution today in preparation for a new cargo operator, BX Solutions, at Toledo Express Airport. The resolution authorizes BX Solutions to manage and maintain the cargo facility, manage the delivery of all services at, to and from the facility and market the facility for intermodal transportation services cooperatively with the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority.

The Great Lakes maritime industry today released the results of a year-long study of the economic impacts of the entire Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway navigation system. The study was commissioned by members of the marine shipping industry, in partnership with U.S. and Canadian government agencies. Martin Associates of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a global leader in transportation economic analysis and strategic planning, was retained to conduct the study.

For the second time in five years, the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has won a federal grant to support development of air service at struggling Toledo Express Airport, this time with a Denver route as the primary candidate.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has received a $2.8 million loan from the state to prepare BAX Global's former hub at Toledo Express Airport for future tenants.

In honor of Toledo Executive Airport’s first year of operation under its new name, the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority will be unveiling its new sign at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning as a photo opportunity for local media outlets. BAX Global may be gone from Toledo Express Airport, but some of the freight it formerly handled there isn't.

The total public/private investment into Ironville Terminal will be more than $18 million when the infrastructure projects are complete in 2014.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - A new solar field was dedicated Wednesday by the city of Toledo that will power the water treatment plant in East Toledo.

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - The City of Toledo and the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority unveiled a new 5-acre solar field located on the grounds of the Collins Park water treatment plant.

Toledo, OH (WTVG) -- Solar power is about to help the City of Toledo save a lot of money. The public/private partnership is not only generating solar power, it's also putting a lot of people to work . A solar park was unveiled Wednesday at the Collins Park water treatment plant on York street on the city's East side. It's a five acre,5.2 million dollar project and it has local written all over it from the solar panels to the construction crews.

With the sun high in the sky, there was little shade to be found outside Toledo's water treatment plant Wednesday afternoon -- perfect conditions to showcase the city's latest solar-powered venture.

A little less than a year after abandoning a federal grant to support new air service to New York, the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has filed an application to support a proposed route between Toledo Express Airport and Denver.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority welcomes its colleagues to Toledo for the bi-annual meeting of the American Great Lakes Ports Association (AGLPA) on Thurs., July 28, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Toledo. The AGLPA is an organization representing the interests of the public port authorities on the Great Lakes. The attendees will be comprised of Port Directors and CEOs from U.S. and Canadian Great Lakes Ports.

The latest statistics from the St. Lawrence Seaway show that grain shipments are up more than 20 percent as the marine highway benefits from international demand for American and Canadian wheat.

Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority President and CEO, Paul Toth was joined today by state and local officials to unveil the master redevelopment concepts for the recently acquired Jeep Parkway Property. The Port Authority purchased the former industrial site last fall with the sole purpose of remediating the valuable parcel of property and returning it to the stream of commerce – thus creating jobs and economic development for the region.

Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and state and local officials will unveil the master plan concepts for the recently acquired Jeep Parkway Property at an event on Thurs., July 7 at 2 p.m. on the Jeep Parkway property. Port officials will also speak about the remediation and redevelopment efforts and provide details on how the recently received Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund (CORF) grants will be used to help complete the site remediation.

Today, the Clean Ohio Council approved more than $27 million in Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund grants for 17 brownfield clean-up projects throughout the state, which are expected to create and retain nearly 600 jobs. The funding, approved at a Clean Ohio Council Round 10 Awards meeting, will allow for the reuse of commercial and industrial properties that are currently idle. The grants are contingent upon State Controlling Board approval.

The 122-foot square top sail schooner Lynx will be sailing into the Port of Toledo for the second time on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 12 p.m. and will be docking beside the Willis B. Boyer Museum Ship. The vessel will be firing a salute from her main battery of six-pounder carronades upon her grand entrance into the Port of Toledo. The Privateer Lynx was hired to train the cast and crew of the hit movie, Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has issued an $8 million taxable bond within the Northwest Ohio Bond Fund Program to Materion Brush Inc., formerly known as Brush Wellman Inc. The bonds were used to acquire a 125,400 square foot facility and for the purchase of new machinery and equipment. The 10-year bond, which closed at the end of April 2011, has a fixed interest rate of 4.90 percent.

The St. Lawrence Seaway has reported a strong start to the 2011shipping season. Generally viewed as a bellwether for the regional economy, initial indicators show signs of a continued rebound over last season with significant increases in grain, steel slabs, and general cargo during the first two months of activity.

A new study completed by researchers at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Transport Canada and the Canadian Aquatic Invasive Species Network has determined that current ballast water policies for the Great Lakes are highly effective in protecting ecosystems from aquatic invasive species. The report was recently published in the Journal of Environmental Science and Technology, and provides strong support for Canadian policies to be adopted around the world.

A unique public-private partnership between the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and Columbia Gas of Ohio is resulting in new “green” careers in Northwest Ohio as well as big savings for homeowners.

The Northwest Ohio Development Assistance Corporation through the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority recently provided Culver’s Restaurant a U.S. Small Business Administration 504 Loan in the amount of $770,465 for the purchase of property and equipment and the construction of a new building. Once the project is complete, the restaurant will create 25 full-time equivalent jobs. The Port Authority will join employees of Culvers for the ground breaking.

BetterBuildings Northwest Ohio is designed to improve buildings across Northwest Ohio by financing energy efficiency technology. July 1, 2011 is the centennial of the S.S. Willis B. Boyer Museum Ship and also marks the date she will be rechristened to Col. James M. Schoonmaker. This event marks the beginning of a three day Centennial Celebration sponsored by the Toledo Blade which will include a visit from the Privateer Schooner LYNX, a historic Toledo Club boxing event aboard the ship and the annual Red White Kaboom fireworks presentation.

On January 5, 2011 The Toledo Shipyard and IRONHEAD Marine Inc. successfully dry-docked the 730 foot, self unloading bulk carrier CSL Tadoussac.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority launched the Diversified Contractors Accelerator Program (DCAP) today which provides financial solutions to encourage increased participation by Northwest Ohio-based minority and women-owned contractors in publicly bid work and privately funded construction projects.

When not fully loaded, commercial cargo ships must take on water (ballast) to maintain their stability. Once pumped on board, ballast water is stored in narrow cavities (ballast tanks) built into the hull of a ship. Ballast water pumped onboard in one port may inadvertently contain aquatic organisms that are then released when ballast is discharged in another port.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration (MARAD) today announced that it is providing $4 million to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species found in cargo ships plying the Great Lakes and America’s inland waterways.

Washington, D.C. (November 11, 2010) – Cargo shipments through the St. Lawrence Seaway continue to show improvement as the current season comes to an end. An increase in Canadian exports of grains out of Ontario and Quebec, along with demand for construction materials and general cargo shipments boosted October’s numbers.

Washington, D.C. (October 20, 2010) — Cargo shipments through the St. Lawrence Seaway continue to rebound on the back of strong American grain exports and iron ore and steel activity, along with an uptick of new business and trade routes.

TOLEDO, Ohio, Oct. 8, 2010  – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority officially acquired the historic Jeep Parkway property on Fri., Oct. 3, 2010 for a purchase price of $95,000.  The 111 acre site located at 1000 Jeep Parkway will undergo an environmental remediation process over the next 18 to 24 months and redeveloped thereafter.

The funds that the Willis B. Boyer received were strictly reserved for historic properties in the State of Ohio. Last August, the State of Ohio received $1.8 million in funding through the Recovery Act from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for Brownfield Revitalization efforts. Up to $200,000 in Recovery Act funding was made available to eligible nonprofit and local government entities for remediating asbestos in historic buildings, which contributes to the economic revitalization of communities, vibrant neighborhood centers, and health and safety for occupants and visitors of these buildings.

TOLEDO, Ohio, August 26, 2010 – This weekend, in conjunction with the S.S. Willis B. Toledo, OH – Aug. 20, 2010 – Standards and Poor’s (S&P) announced a BBB investment-grade rating with Stable Outlook on Friday for the Northwest Ohio Bond Fund, which is administered by the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority. The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has been working with S&P since the start of 2010 to establish this rating.

Toledo, OH – July 28, 2010 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority recently provided WeFulFillIT.com a U.S. Small Business Administration 504 Loan in the amount of $369,000 to purchase a new building and equipment. This company has 12 employees, five of which are new positions and will be creating at least five more new positions within the next year.

Toledo, OH – July 22, 2010 – The 122-foot, square top sail schooner Lynx will be present in downtown Toledo and docking beside the Willis B. Boyer Museum Ship. The vessel will be firing a salute from her main battery of six-pounder carronades at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010. The Privateer Lynx was hired to train the cast and crew of the hit movie, Pirates of the Caribbean.

Introduction: On October 15, 2009 the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority Board of Directors appointed Paul L. Toth, Jr. as the President and CEO. Paul has over two decades of experience with the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority. He most recently served as Vice President of Technical and Financing Services, and prior to that as Airports Director. Paul is responsible for a staff of 50 and for all Port Authority operations which includes two airports, a multi-modal seaport, land acquisition and development activities and an innovative financing portfolio. Paul earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of  Toledo and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio. He is also a Graduate of the University of Toledo’s Graduate School of Business earning a Masters in Business Administration, specializing in finance.

TOLEDO, Ohio, March 31, 2010 - The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has purchased two new Liebherr Mobile Harbor Cranes for the Port of Toledo and is encouraging area students to name the cranes in anticipation of their arrival in May 2010. The Name The Cranes contest will be held April 1 through April 30, 2010 and area students can submit their name choice via the website www.namethecranes.com. TOLEDO, Ohio, January 21, 2010 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority Board of Directors has granted City of Compassion CDC $35,000 for predevelopment costs to develop a solar photovoltaic generating facility on a 19 acre site adjacent to the Xunlight Corporation.  The award comes from the Port Authority Community Economic Development Initiative grant and loan program.

TOLEDO, Ohio, Jan. 14. 2010  The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority along with the Port Authorities of Cleveland-Cuyahoga County and Summit County have been selected to receive a total of $7.5 million dollars over three years from First Energy Co. to support economic development and job retention projects under an agreement reached with The Ohio Manufacturers' Association (OMA).
